Dear College stakeholder:
It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that Lise Betteridge, the College’s Registrar and CEO, has informed College Council of her decision to retire at the end of July 2023.
Lise was appointed Registrar and CEO of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers in 2015, after serving previously as Director of Professional Practice, Deputy Registrar and Acting Registrar. Prior to joining the College in 2010, Lise held management and clinical positions in diverse healthcare settings. She has also held a number of board and committee positions, is a current member of the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR) Board of Directors and a member and past President of the Canadian Council of Social Work Regulators’ (CCSWR) Board of Directors.
We have accomplished so much with Lise’s calm, steady and professional hand at the helm of the College’s management. She has provided leadership during a period of significant growth and development for the College – in terms of its registrant base, its governance, regulatory and operational processes, its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and its efforts to increase the public’s understanding and awareness of the College’s public protection mandate. Lise has also contributed significantly to the College’s leadership stature in the regulatory field, not only in Ontario, but across Canada, North America and globally.
The College Council will soon launch its recruitment process to ensure a smooth transition to a new Registrar and CEO.
On behalf of College Council, I want to thank Lise for her steadfast commitment and service to the College and its public protection mandate.
I trust that you will join me in wishing the very best to Lise on her retirement plans.
Sincerely,
John E. Fleming
