Registration Regulation Amendments

On August 13, 2010, amendments to the Registration Regulation came into force. The amending regulations introduces a new requirement for registration.

An applicant must have engaged in the practice of social work or social service work, as the case may be, within the five years immediately before the date of the application or otherwise satisfy the Registrar that he or she is competent to perform the role of a social worker or social service worker, as the case may be.

This requirement does not apply to an applicant who has obtained the academic qualifications, or the academic qualifications and experience, required for registration with the College, within the five years immediately before the date of application.

The amending regulation also sets out the requirements for a general certificate of registration for social work to be issued to an applicant who already holds an authorizing certificate in social work granted by a Canadian social work regulatory authority.
