The College has three important updates for College members regarding the Continuing Competence Program (CCP), the Social Workers and Social Service Workers Professional Development Fund (PDF), and the controlled act of psychotherapy.
Continuing Competence Program (CCP) Membership renewal for 2016 is set to begin this fall! When you renew your membership, you’ll be required to make a declaration indicating that you have participated in the 2015 CCP. If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to complete your CCP documents to ensure that you’re meeting this important professional obligation. Participation in the CCP demonstrates to the public that you’re Professional, Ethical, Qualified and Accountable.
Remember:
- CCP participation is a condition of registration. All members are required to participate in the CCP regardless of employment status or when they joined the College.
- The CCP is self-directed: a wide variety of learning activities can count toward fulfilling your learning goals.
Please be advised that the Registration Regulation made under the Social Work and Social Service Work Act, 1998 gives the College the authority to suspend the certificate of registration of a member for non-compliance with the CCP.Click here to access the CCP section on the College website.
Social Workers and Social Service Workers Professional Development Fund (PDF)
The College is pleased to announce that the PDF application form is now available online. This fund is open to social workers and social service workers registered with the College who are living or working in Ontario, and is administered through the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW).
Please visit www.swsswpdf.org to learn more about the PDF and access the online application form.Psychotherapy
The College is working collaboratively with the five other regulatory colleges whose members will have access to the controlled act of psychotherapy (once it’s proclaimed) and with representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) to further clarify the definition of the controlled act. This clarification has been requested by the MOHLTC to ensure there is a consistent understanding of the controlled act among practitioners and the public prior to proclamation.
We will continue to communicate regularly with government about this important issue and to provide updates to our members regarding this ongoing work.
