We understand that during these challenging times, there remains an ongoing need for applicants to register with the College, as well as a desire for an expedited process to put individuals in a position to contribute during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

In the context of the current pandemic, the College has adapted its registration processes where possible, keeping in mind that government approval is needed to change the current requirements of the Registration Regulation. As noted in an eBulletin to educators and employers, high-priority applications for registration will be processed on a case-by-case basis.

Processing high-priority applications for registration

The College is processing high-priority applications on a case-by-case basis for the following registration streams:

  • social work degree from an accredited program in Ontario
  • social service work diploma from an approved program in Ontario
  • registered social worker from a province or territory outside Ontario, excluding Nunavut

This adapted process enables those individuals seeking registration with the College under the general class of certificate of registration (including new graduates prior to convocation) to submit their application and all necessary documentation electronically.

Requesting to be considered a high-priority application

If an individual wishes to be considered for high-priority registration, they must make their request in writing to the Registration Department at registration@ocswssw.org and include the following:

  • College application form: The appropriate application form should be downloaded, printed and completed, including the applicant’s signature, and subsequently emailed along with the request.
  • Credit card authorization: As part of the application form, the credit card payment authorization section must be completed, including signature by the cardholder.
  • Official transcript (or In Good Standing Certificate): If an individual has already obtained their SSW diploma, BSW degree or MSW degree, the academic institution must email the official transcript to the College directly. For applicants who are registered social workers from a province or territory outside Ontario (excluding Nunavut), the SW regulator must email the In Good Standing Certificate directly to the College.
  • Reason for the request: The reason for the request must be included in order to initiate a high-priority application for registration.

New graduates

New graduates who wish to be considered for high-priority registration, must make their request in writing to the Registration Department at registration@ocswssw.org and include the following:

  • College application form: The appropriate application form should be downloaded, printed and completed, including the applicant’s signature, and subsequently emailed along with the request.
  • Credit card authorization: As part of the application form, the credit card payment authorization section must be completed, including signature by the cardholder.
  • Reason for the request: The reason for the request must be included in order to initiate a high priority application for registration.

If the new graduate has not obtained their social work degree or social service work diploma, but has completed all of the academic and practicum requirements for their degree or diploma, the College will send the appropriate Confirmation of Completion of Requirements form to their university or college if we are able to begin processing their application as a high priority registration.

Application processing times

The College will make every effort to process high-priority applications for registration in a timely manner. Please note that there may be delays during this period due to volume and resources available remotely and any outstanding documentation.
