This spring the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers was pleased to launch its online complaint form.
The new online complaint form is part of the College’s strategic priority to enhance regulatory effectiveness and improve accessibility and efficiency for stakeholders. The new form allows members of the public to submit complaints directly through the College website and includes an introductory decision tree to assist potential complainants in navigating the complaints process.
“The College’s complaints process is designed to protect the public by assessing and responding to complaints about the conduct of College members,” said Richelle Samuel, Director, Complaints and Discipline. “We hope that the new online complaint form will allow for a more accessible experience and further streamline the College’s complaints process for potential complainants.”
Protecting the public interest
As the regulatory body for social workers and social service workers in Ontario, the College’s primary mandate is to protect the public interest. One of the ways the College fulfills this mandate is by maintaining rigorous complaints and discipline processes.
The College considers and investigates complaints regarding alleged misconduct of College members. If allegations are brought to the College’s attention regarding a member breaching the Social Work and Social Service Work Act, the regulations or the College’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, the matter will be addressed through the College’s investigations process.
The complaints process is intended for members of the public who wish to make a complaint about the conduct of a social worker or social service worker. Employers should NOT use the College’s complaint form to submit a mandatory report. Employers can learn more about the mandatory reporting process here.
