The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (the College) will be closed on Monday, October 2nd in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity for all Canadians to learn about and reflect on the dark chapter in the country’s history, honour the children who never came home and to commemorate the survivors of the residential “school” system, their families and their communities.
The College is committed to continuing its ongoing efforts around truth and reconciliation, and encourages everyone to access the following resources and supports:
- Indian Residential School Survivors Society
- Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action
- United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
There is also an Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line that has been set up to provide support for survivors and those affected. Individuals can access emotional and crisis referral services by calling the 24-hour national crisis line: 1-800-721-0066.
