Message from the Registrar and CEO

As the summer months bring warmth and renewal, we at Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (the College) want to take this opportunity to reflect on our valued partnership with employers like you. We are proud to work alongside you as trusted resources, united in our commitment to public protection.

As employers, you play a crucial role in upholding this commitment and safeguarding clients and communities served by your organizations. This pivotal support is made possible by our shared responsibility to ensure that only qualified practitioners hold the titles of “social worker” and “social service worker.” By always checking the Online Register and referring to the information on our website about unregulated practitioners and titles and designations, you help maintain high standards of care.

The articles in this summer’s issue of Employer Communiqué provide insight towards this shared goal. Updates include information on new graduates and the elimination of terms and conditions legislations, and information on our new online mandatory reporting process. These changes are implemented with your input in mind, with the goal to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of our regulatory processes, and to further safeguard all Ontarians.

Regarding change, we are excited to share that an important legislative amendment by the Ontario government has passed and is now in effect. Further details about these enhanced protections can be found in this issue here.

As we work together, we can ensure that all parties are equipped with the necessary tools and resources for best practices and to stay informed of the most up-to-date processes. Let’s continue working collaboratively to provide the best possible environments and care to those who need it most.

Sincerely,
Denitha Breau, RN, MSN, MBA
