The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (the College) will be closed on Monday, September 30th in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation serves as an important opportunity for Canadians to reflect on the country’s history, honour the children lost to the residential “school” system and recognize the strength and resilience of survivors, their families and their communities.
As part of our commitment to truth and reconciliation, the College encourages everyone to explore the following resources:
- Indian Residential School Survivors Society
- Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action
- United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
Resources to support social workers and social service workers in serving Indigenous clients and communities are available on our website.
A 24-hour Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line is available to support survivors and others affected by the residential school system. Emotional and crisis referral services can be accessed by calling: 1-800-721-0066.
