As we settle into the fall season, I want to recognize the important role you as employers play in safeguarding the public through your support of ethical and professional practice within Ontario’s social workers and social service workers. This season of change reflects the evolving nature of the professions and the significant impact of your commitment to quality care for Ontarians.
Recently, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (the College) held a virtual roundtable for employers in Ottawa and surrounding areas. It was an excellent opportunity to connect directly with our Professional Practice and Registration and Renewals departments and to keep strengthening our collaborative efforts. During the virtual roundtable discussion, we addressed key topics such as cross jurisdictional registration, the importance of title protection and how crucial mandatory reporting is to further protect the public. I would like to thank everyone who attended and shared their insights and experiences. Your feedback is appreciated, and we are committed to exploring ways to better support employers in these areas.
Our commitment to regulatory excellence remains strong, and I am pleased to share the College’s 2024-2029 Strategic Plan. This five-year plan sets out strategic priorities that directly impact employers: strengthening regulatory effectiveness, deepening our connections with engagement groups, advancing equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and addressing emerging issues in the professions.
As a part of the College’s commitment to public protection, this fall issue of Employer Communiqué includes valuable resources designed to help your employees in their practice and professional development. These resources will also assist you in upholding the highest standards within your organizations.
Thank you for your dedication to excellence to the clients and communities you serve. We look forward to our continued partnership as we work together to create a supportive environment for the social work and social service work professions together.
Sincerely,
Denitha Breau, RN, MSN, MBA
