The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (the College) is pleased to announce that the call for applications is now open for interested registrants in Electoral Districts No. 1, No. 2 and No.5.
On Friday, May 30, 2025, one social worker and one social service worker from Districts No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 will be elected to join the 2025-2026 College Council. The term will begin in September 2025.
NEW – Online Application Process for Council Elections
This year, we’re excited to introduce a streamlined online application process through the College’s Online Portal.
Eligible registrants in Electoral Districts No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 now have access to a new “Council Elections” tab in the Online Portal to complete the Council Candidate Application Package.
Interested registrants can now log in to the Online Portal and complete their application today!

The deadline to submit the Council Candidate Application Package is 5 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025.

What Do Council Members Do?
Council members play a pivotal role in governing the College, impacting policies that regulate the practice of social work and social service work. Council member attend approximately four meetings annually and sit on at least one statutory committee.

Eligibility to Stand for Election
Interested registrants may be eligible to run for Council if they meet these requirements:
- Registered Professional: They hold a current certificate to practise social work or social service work in Ontario.
- Location Matters: They work or live in Electoral District No. 1, No. 2 or No. 5
- In Good Standing: They’ve paid all required fees and have no disciplinary or incapacity matters with the College.
- Training Complete: They’ve successfully completed the required training and screening process.
- No Conflicts of Interest: They’re not employed by the College or any related organization and haven’t been in the past year.
- Commitment to Serve: They’re ready to serve for a three-year term and haven’t already completed nine years serving on Council.
- Skills and Fit: They align with the College’s Council Member Profile (which can be accessed in the online application) and bring leadership and teamwork skills.
- Clean Record: They haven’t been disqualified from serving on Council or any College committees before.
- Passionate About Public Protection: They want to help guide and support ethical and professional practice for the professions with the goal of protecting the public.
