More Information at your Fingertips: Explore the New Online Register Improvements

As part of our commitment to public protection, the College maintains an Online Register of social workers and social service workers across Ontario. This easy-to-use tool includes information about a registrant’s registration status, discipline history (if any) and employer contact information.

We have taken employers’ feedback into account and made upgrades to the Online Register. These improvements make it easier for employers to do their due diligence when hiring social workers and social service workers, as well as ensuring their employees remain in good standing with the College.

New Fields

When looking up a registrant on the Online Register, a Certificate of Registration Expiration Date field is now available. As registrants are required to renew their registration annually, this field indicates whether a registrant has renewed their registration for the year, helping employers confirm that they are in good standing with the College.

An Initial Registration Date field has also been added, which allows employers to check against a job applicant’s resume or application to ensure the information is accurate.

Name Used in Practice

Be sure to also check out the new Name Used in Practice field. If a registrant has informed the College that they use a shortened version or a nickname of their legal name, this information will now show up on their profile in the Online Register. This feature helps employers check to confirm that a job applicant is using accurate names during the hiring process.

Register Notes

Employers can also check the Register Notes tab to see if a registrant has any Complaints and Discipline notations and/or any Administration notations, such as terms, conditions and limitations (TCLs). This enhancement has the ability to sort all notes by register note type and by date.

Glossary of Terms

The Online Register includes the practising status of a registrant, as well as any notations and terms, conditions and limitations that may be placed on their certificate. Some of these terms may be challenging to understand. The College has developed a useful Glossary of Terms that employers can refer to if they are unfamiliar with the definition of a term they see on a registrant’s profile.
